Young Gifted Brum @ The Drum – How will YOU Express Yourself?

January 24th, 2014 5:25 pm

Here at The Drum we’re always proud to celebrate achievement, and nothing makes us prouder than the amazing things going on in our Young Gifted Brum Workshops.

YGB brings together children and young people aged 8 – 18 from across the region for low-cost weekly workshops in Dance, Drama and Vocal Tuition.

Workshops are delivered by our dedicated team of experienced artists and tutors, and teach those involved to develop their creativity, self- confidence, and communication skills, whilst having loads of fun!

Whether learning the basics of script reading, toning your singing voice, or pushing your limits with the most advanced street dance moves, there’s something to let everyone express themselves… but don’t take our word for it!

To kick off the year, YGB members scripted, filmed and edited this promotion video, to let other young people know what a great time they could be having!

“We’ve been learning about Black History through drama, and were inspired by great black leaders such as Barack Obama, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela” explains Kieran Mellard, of YGB’s 14-18 Drama Group.

“These icons achieved great things for their communities, and it moved us to become young activists ourselves. YGB is suffering because not enough people know about it – so we created a promotion video in order to make a change in our community.”

Our 2014 Spring Season will be offering the following classes…

Street Dance for Beginners

Ideal for anyone starting from scratch who wants to learn the basics, these classes will introduce you to the basics of Street Dance, ease you into routines, and have you dancing in no time!

Improve Your Street Dance

Perfect for more developed dancers looking to hone their skills, these workshops let participants practice what they know and learn a number of new routines.

Advanced Street Dance

For those who want to take their moves to the next level! The most talented dancers have previously worked with international choreographers, and are developing into a crew to keep an eye on!

Drama for 8-10 year olds

Members will learn basic drama skills and how to develop their onstage presence, as well as developing self-confidence and literacy skills.

Drama for 11-13 year olds

Workshops teach participants to work with scripts, learn monologues, and devise their own theatrical piece for a showcase performance, all the while developing creative thinking and theatrical skills.

Drama for 14-18 year olds

Members will learn a full range of theatrical techniques, develop their critical thinking and creative writing skills to eventually stage their own production of an issue-base theatre piece.
