United Rhythms

Tickets : £8.00

Birmingham born, classically trained Tabla player and composer Mendi Mohinder Singh brings his ground-breaking new work to The Drum as part of our 20th Anniversary Celebrations.

Mendi's artistic vision is to create the world's first East-West percussion orchestra featuring Tabla Trang. United Rhythm's unites the music of both hemispheres in an entertaining, uplifting and rhythmical spectacle that communicates the elements of Indian spirituality, uniting people with the power of music, sound and vision through a universal language.

Mendi will perform three original compositions for orchestral percussion with Birmingham Conservatoire's Percussion Ensemble, drawing on African, South American, American and Arabic styles, written in a Western classical context.

Mendi will be collaborating with Handpan player Samantha Archer. This unique combination of Tabla and Handpan will leave you mesmerized. There will also be a very special performance with 7th Dan Samurai expert Fay Goodman, demonstrating a four hundred year old Japanese kata (choreographed martial art).

Supported by Arts Council England, Birmingham City Council, Sampad, Birmingham City University and Professional Incredibles
