The Drum & Royal Shakespeare Company presents:

Yo! Othello

________________________________________________________________________

Sat 20 Oct – Sun 28 Oct

The Royal Shakespeare Company brings Yo! Othello to The Drum in Birmingham from Sat 20 Oct to Sun 28 Oct. This intergenerational project brings Shakespeare to the inner city in conjunction with one of the world’s best known theatre companies RSC. The project gives both adults and young people the rare opportunity to work with the crème de la crème of the theatre world.

The tragedy Othello, by William Shakespeare was written around 1603. The first known performance occurred on November 1, 1604, at Whitehall Palace in London. Since then there have been many adaptations of Othello through many film genres; Hollywood in the 1995 film Othello starring Laurence Fishburne, Opera in the 1986 film version Otello starring Placido Domingo and Bollywood in the 2006 film Omkara starring Saif Ali Khan.

Yo! Othello kicks off with a Family Fun Weekend on Sat 20 & Sun 21 Oct with activities for all ages led by RSC actors, directors, designers and theatre practitioners. You can join in with a whole host of exciting workshops; interactive Othello themed Storytelling, Dance, Drama, Stage Combat and Singing Workshops. Even if you’re not taking part, why not just come along and soak up the great atmosphere!

The Workshops run from Mon 22 to Fri 26 Oct, /b>Pre-booking only. You will be working with professionals from the RSC over the course of a week to unlock the magic of Shakespeare’s play Othello. You will have the opportunity to approach the play from different perspectives including movement, text and design and then generate your responses to the play and showcase them to a public audience on Sun 28 Oct. So, whether you’re a budding actor, singer, dancer or just love to perform, we want to see you! (*Tickets are available now!)
