The Drum in Partnership with Media Moguls presents
West is West – An Exclusive Midlands preview
The Drum is honoured to be hosting an exclusive Midlands preview of the British Asian comedy West is West, the sequel to the smash-hit East is East. The official release date is Sat 25th Feb, but The Drum is screening it on Sat 5th Feb, doors open at 7pm. It is an incredible opportunity to be one of the first to enjoy this Asian comedy sequel.
The prequel East is East was a massive hit when it was first released in the UK, with its opening weekend taking in over £400,000 and a solid platform being created for future British- Asian films.
West is West showcases the Khan family’s return to the big screen five years from where we left off! It is now 1976 and youngest son Sajid has ditched the parka, as this 15 year old Pakistani boy in Salford must learn to deal with pubescent worries and racist bullying that surrounds him at school. He feels so alone, that he takes to aimlessly wandering the streets of Manchester, indulging in thrilling little thieving expeditions; until he gets arrested.
George “Ghengis” Khan and wife Ella are still running “George’s English Chippy”, and tensions seem to have calmed down within the household. That is however until George finds out about Sajid’s poor grades and after school “five finger discount” hobby.
For George this is the final straw, he can no longer accept the fact that his Pakistani children are behaving in such an unruly way. So he decides to send his youngest Sajid to a Pakistani village in the middle of the Punjab, with no electricity, no hot water and no toilet!
The movie deals with issues that surround all families and the Khan family are no different. This laugh out loud comedy cleverly mixes British and Asian wit, to create a movie that is made for a multicultural audience.
So join The Drum for this exclusive screening, it is not to be missed.
