Strictly Aaja Nachle
Press Release
Immediate:
Hathi Productions in association with Culture Shock and The Drum presents:
Strictly Aaja Nachle (Strictly Come Dancing)
Strictly Aaja Nachle is a unique, vibrant and refreshing musical adaptation of the critically acclaimed Bollywood film and will be coming to The Drum on Thu 27 Nov, 7.30pm.
The show follows the story of Dia and her two month struggle to save her beloved dance school from being taken over by a commercial dance organisation, but who will help her?
Perhaps the local Tomboy Anokhi, the elderly Mr Chaudry , a vulnerable pizza parlour owner, Winston or break dancing Rasta Joey with his vagabond ‘beat box’ partner ‘Dropbeats’. Along with other entertaining characters from our community, Dia must create order from chaos, she must create art to preserve the soul of her community.
All Dia knows is that she must create a new performance, one to remember. With the stage finally set the only question is, will it work, or is it too late?
The role of Madhuri Dixit will be played by former Broadway College student Subah Begum. Who has recently completed her level two training in World Theatre with Hathi Productions. Subah has successfully adapted the role of Madhuri Dixit playing Dia in the Bollywood film, to contemporary Birmingham, she explains:
“We all have dreams of becoming someone in British Musicals but with Hathi here, those dreams can become reality for someone like me, who two years ago had no real chance. I know I messed up at school but now I have been given a second chance and no way am I going to waste it.”
Subah Begum
Hathi’s partner, Culture Shock is a vibrant new company in its second year of development. Their vision is to offer a unique opportunity to aspiring African, Caribbean and Asian artists from the diverse-ethnic inner city region of Birmingham.
Determined to prove B6 Aston is more than a postcode, the young artists have set their sights on not only raising the profile of the community but also pursue their dreams of influencing professional theatre.
