SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS _______________________________________________________________________________________

Tue 27 Feb , Auditorium
£22, £26 on the door (No concessions)

The Grammy award-winning, world famous gospel and instrumental ensemble Sounds of Blackness famed for their massive 90s hits The Pressure Pt 1, Spirit and I Believe, are heading to The Drum for a live, one-off gig in February. It’s been a decade since they played here in Birmingham to a rapturous sell-out crowd in 1997. This outstanding line up promises to be even bolder and dynamic, coupled with their exceptional lead vocalists and inspiring lyrics.

Led by Gary Hines, Sounds of Blackness are not your typical gospel outfit; the group performs some of the funkiest urban sounds you’re likely to encounter. Their music embraces every genre of black music from Jazz, Blues, Rock and Roll, Rhythm and Blues to Gospel, Reggae and Spirituals.

“We sing the message and bring the music of the whole African Diaspora, whether it’s the islands of the sea; whether it’s the UK or South America, or in the US. We reflect all of that in our music and in our message.” GARY HINES, Sounds of Blackness – (Musical Director).

Since January 1971, Sounds of Blackness have consistently performed, recorded and proudly proclaimed the music, culture and history of African Americans to audiences around the world. They have performed for crowds of over one billion people: the Opening Ceremonies of the 1994 World Cup, the 1996 Summer Olympics, and the 1998 World Figure Skating Championships. The group has also performed at the White House on five separate occasions.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see one of the world’s leading multi-talented ensembles for a truly uplifting experience. To top this amazing gig, we have Support on the night from Mobo award-winning Nu Life.
