PENDU PEO LONDON WICH
Matribhoomi Theatre Company presents PENDU PEO LONDON WICH on 13-14 Sep at 7:30pm at The Drum. This is the story of Hawaldar Pyara Singh who travels from India to London to live with his son and family. This Punjabi language play set in London takes a humorous look into the cross-generational barriers of British Indians and Indians’ from back home.
“Pendu Peo London Wich is a story of people whose roots are the same but branches are different…. whose culture is the same but whose difference is culture…its a comedy play that tells us a story of people who can’t speak to their dear ones because of language barriers.”
MATRIBHOOMI THEATRE COMPANY
The character Hawaldar Pyara Singh finds himself in a very funny situation because he can’t communicate with his grandchildren because they don’t know Punjabi and he can’t speak English. He brings Makki Di Roti (type of Indian flat-bread) and Gudd (pure raw cane sweet) which they don’t eat. He sings them Heer (classic Punjabi folk song) which they don’t understand. Then he tries to learn English and teach them Punjabi which doesn’t work out either! Surprisingly one day Hawaldar disappears without telling his relatives, only to return a very different man.
This play gives us a message that it doesn’t matter where you live in the world but never leave your culture and never forget your dear ones. Written by Gurdip Kaur Chaudhary and Directed by Jitender Singh; featuring an incredible cast and very funny scenes, don’t miss it!
