Live Box featuring SWAY

The Live Box is a weekly performance arts event hosted by MOBO award-winning saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch. Embracing live music, poetry, hip hop and dance, The Live Box offers both emerging and established artists the opportunity to develop and perform their work and successfully breaks down barriers between high art and street culture.

Whilst jazz underpins the majority of The Live Box sessions, a unique feature is that impromptu poetry recitals sit comfortably alongside straight-ahead jazz, and hip hop MCs feel as at home as reggae musicians. The meeting of alternative genres has encouraged many exceptional performances, and defied stereotypes.

Joining The Live Box line-up on Sun 3 May will be MOBO Best Hip Hop Act 2005 SWAY aka Lil’ Derek. His debut album THIS IS MY DEMO propelled SWAY into pole position as the UK’s best selling grime and hip hop artist. His second album THE SIGNATURE LP has been recently released on Akon’s Konvict Label. The album features a series of collaborations with chart toppers including F UR X featuring Stush; SATURDAY NIGHT HUSTLE featuring Lemar; SILVER & GOLD featuring Akon and SWAY also features on Busy Signal’s massive track TIC TOC (THE REMIX) .

Also appearing along with SWAY is multi-awarding winning saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch. Soweto is one of the few artists whose appeal traverse underground and mainstream audiences, and is equally respected in both jazz and hip hop circles.

This event is set to be an urban rollercoaster of UK grime, Hip Hop and lyrical genius.
