Islam, Hip Hop and Social Change – The Debate

What is the relationship between Islam and hip hop? Are they compatible? Where are the boundaries?

Islam and hip hop is a lively and informative debate that will be chaired by Rakin Fetuga of Mecca2Medina, and will aim to discuss these questions and explore the influence that hip hop has had on young British Muslim life.

The exciting discussion also features widely respected academic and scholar Sheikh Michael Mumisa ‘Alimiyya (Dar el-Ulum), Ishmeal Yasin of Mecca2Medina and Tony Ishola founder of Muslim arts and culture magazine, The Platform.

Introducing a female perspective to the insightful debate is Poetic Pilgrimages’, Muneera Rashida and Sukina Abdul Noor. This exciting duo are one of the few female Muslim outfits who are unafraid to express themselves through the art of rhyme, covering personal and social issues without compromising their Islamic faith.

Award winning poet and rapper, playwright and political activist Lowkey and special guests bring the evening to a close with a live performance, not to be missed!

This event offers a wonderful opportunity to explore a captivating topic and for audience members to put their questions and express their opinions to a diverse panel of guest speakers.

Tickets are £5 (£3). To book tickets please call The Drum Box Office on 0121 333 2444 or go online at www.the-drum.org.uk.
