Vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Xantoné Blacq’s performs live at The Drum on Sat 19 May. He describes his sound as – ‘Free-Range Sunshine Music’, think Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and Roy Ayers in the making. Xantoné has also been appearing live as a member of Amy Winehouse’s band on her sell-out 2007 tour.
His musical career started early when at the age of three he would stand on a stool in his church playing congas! Influenced by musicians as varied as Fela Kuti and Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music!), Xantoné’s style is free and easy. His latest album To Heavens and Beyond features guest performances from Master Funkster ‘Pee Wee’ Ellis, Braziliian songstress Patricia Marx and Indian Classical vocalists, adding global flavours to his unique sound.
