_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Xantoné Blacq’s performs live at The Drum on Sat 19 May. He describes his sound as – ‘Free-Range Sunshine Music’, think Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and Roy Ayers in the making. Xantoné has also been appearing live as a member of Amy Winehouse’s band on her sell-out 2007 tour.

His musical career started early when at the age of three he would stand on a stool in his church playing congas! Influenced by musicians as varied as Fela Kuti and Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music!), Xantoné’s style is free and easy. His latest album To Heavens and Beyond features guest performances from Master Funkster ‘Pee Wee’ Ellis, Braziliian songstress Patricia Marx and Indian Classical vocalists, adding global flavours to his unique sound. He has toured extensively receiving acclaim for his live shows both in the UK and across the world.

Xantoné Blacq has toured Spain playing at 14 venues including The Cartegena Jazz Festival and Guadalajara Festival as well as playing in Brazil, Italy, Holland (most recently at North Sea Jazz Festival 2006) and in the Carribean at Boubou’s World Music Festival 2006. The success of his current album in Japan sees him set to tour there in Spring 2007. He is equally popular in the UK having played recently at London Jazz Festival 2006 and venues including Jazz Café, Shepherds Bush Empire, Spitz and Vortex.
