‘History can be just one man’s version of events so I want to put forward another version of events and a different perspective… history is a story, Hoostory is mine’ LAWRENCE HOO
Hoostory is a thought provoking exhibition of poems accompanied by images that tell the tale of Lawrence Hoo’s personal journey into the discovery of African history and identity. This heart warming event comes to The Drum on Mon 6th Oct- Fri 31 Oct, and features a talk with the artist on Wed 8th Oct, 7pm. The exhibition brings together a medley of culture, identity, African origins, traditions and heritage. Hoo cleverly uses social imbalances to justify, dispel and qualify behaviour.
Much of Hoo’s show is painful and confrontational, but to heal any pain and to quell any confrontation you have to understand and to do that, you have to dig deep and unearth all the hurt before real healing can happen. Lawrence believes that through his exhibition, patrons have an opportunity to do this.
Throughout the exhibition Lawrence Hoo asks the viewer to embrace the moment and allow themselves to be taken on a journey of understanding and enlightenment, a journey of pain and ultimately healing.
Exhibitions are open Mon- Fri 10am- 6pm. Admission is free.
