Crime of the Century
Following a successful run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival last summer, The Drum is delighted to welcome the return of Chickenshed Theatre with their new, heart stopping theatre production, Crime of the Century. Performances will take place on Thu 10 and Fri 11 June @ 7.30pm plus a schools matinee on Fri 11 Jun @ 1pm. There is also a post-show discussion following the performance on Thursday.
Through Crime of the Century, Chickenshed turns its attention to the proliferation of knife crime amongst young people. Following the tragic death of three young people associated with Chickenshed, this dynamic dance theatre company embarked on producing a piece of theatre that could be used as a positive tool against the hopeless savagery of knife crime. This is not the story of one particular person, but has been based on the experiences of our staff and cast together with interviews with victims, perpetrators, families, surgeons, police officers and ex offenders.
“I shanked him.
D’ya hear what I am saying?
I shanked him”
Using words, movement and projection alongside a contemporary score of hip-hop and dance music, Crime of the Century packs a frightening punch.
“Emotive and shocking, Chickenshed theatre company’s Crime of the Century is a raw and brutal study of the social engineering that affects so many young people today.”
Edinburgh Evening News
“…if the twenty first century will be remembered as a time we let our children kill each other, Chickenshed will be remembered as the company who had the guts to ask how and why.”

ABOUT THE CHICKENSHED
Chickenshed makes theatre that moves, speaks, lives, breathes. Theatre that relies on each other. A creative process that harnesses the creativity of each individual that magnifies it, to make theatre that belongs to everyone – inclusive theatre.
In 1974, musician and composer Jo Collins, met Mary Ward, a teacher and director. With a shared belief in harnessing the creativity in everyone and anyone, they started a theatre company – in a chicken shed.
