Comedy Winter Series
Upfront Café’s Comedy Winter Series kicks off on Fri 4 Sep, 7.45pm with an intimate studio special featuring the opinionated afro-centric force that is Kwaku. After previous knockout sets on larger bills, hard-hitting Kwaku’s is back venting his controversial, but very funny spleen, that had him labelled the black cousin Alf Garnet never had.
Fri 2 Oct, sees an international special as preppy US star Kyle Grooms (US TV’s Bad Boy of Comedy) takes us on a unique trip into the world of a glasses wearing, booking reading Black man who is faced with hip hop loving America. Tonight he is joined on stage by UK stalwart Felix Dexter (Absolutely Fabulous and The Real McCoy). An Upfront Cafe crowd favourite Felix presents his distinctive blend of character and stand up humour. Host is local boy turned comedian, turned Teletubie John Simmit.
In November (Fri 6 Nov) Upfront Café presents another strong line-up with a performance from comedy’s don Curtis Walker. Joined by the Scandinavian dreadlocked funny man Ahmed Berhan, Curtis rips up the stage in customary heavyweight fashion.
Mouthy local girl Annette Fagon puts feminine concerns in the spotlight on Fri 4 Dec, presenting a female focused bill, Annette is joined by some of her comedienne pals in crime so expect side-splitting jokes and belly laughs as the comedy season draws to a close.
Fri 4 Sep, doors open 7.45pm and tickets are £10 (£8), £15 on the door.
