Cafe Masti - New Asian Comedy Showcase

The Drum presents New Asian Comedy Showcase

The Midlands’ premier Asian Comedy Club, Café Masti returns to The Drum on Fri 26 Mar with an impressive line-up of new talent.

First to take to the stage is The Afghan Accountant. Educated in a public school in South East London, this Marty Feldman look-alike recounts a life story so hilarious it has to be heard to be believed. Find out the difference between Pakistanis and Afghans, and how as a member of the UK airborne forces he received a special Royal send off.

Next up is Anil Desai who made his name as an impressionist. His set involves Desai giving a deck of cards (with a famous name on each one) to the audience, asking them to choose a couple of cards then challenging them to create a scenario for him to act out. At this point the magic happens with Desai improvising a situation in which the characters interact, with side-splitting results.

Completing the line-up is Imran Yusuf. Voted one of the best acts at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Imran is renowned for his stinging, lyrical street-slang verbiage and super-high energy performance. Fast and furious yet charmingly endearing, this is a very unique voice that has never been heard before. Born in Mombasa, Kenya and raised in the UK, Imran seamlessly switches between styles with graceful fluidity, delivering heavy-weight punch lines repeatedly with enormous panache. Fellow comedian Adam Bloom is quoted as saying that he has “Imran is something I’ve never seen before … he almost rapped his gig …it had the rhythm of a rap. I’ve never, ever, ever seen anyone’s delivery like that”. This is high praise indeed.

Café Masti’s New Asian Comedy Showcase is fast gaining a reputation for one of the best Midlands comedy clubs so make sure you put the date in your diary.
