Bhagat Singh: Freedom Fighter ________________________________________________________________________________

“Inquilab Zindabad” (Long Live Revolution!)

Shahid Bhagat Singh

The Wolverhampton Sikh Council presents BHAGAT SINGH: FREEDOM FIGHTER on Sun 25 Nov at . This exhilarating stage production of Bhagat Singh’s life-story reflects on the huge part he played in the anti-colonial movement leading to the Independence of India from the British in 1947. A figure of great courage, bravery and vision Bhagat Singh sacrificed his life for the cause at the age of just 24 and became a symbol of the heroism and inspiration for generations to come. Bhagat Singh was hanged by the British for treason on 23 March 1931. This play shows the martyrdom of a patriot, who continues to inspire bravery among India‘s youth.

Black Country Playwright/Director Harvinder Sohal’s previous play ‘Udham’ sold out at Wolverhampton Arena Theatre last year. Born in the Phillipines and educated from the age of 12 in the West Midlands, she graduated in Drama and Media Communication from the University of Wolverhampton. In the same year she was accepted by the Birmingham Repertory theatre to study script writing under the transmission initiative.

“Bhagat Singh is one of India’s best known revolutionist, his name resonates instantly in Punjab – be it in India or Pakistan. A name that unites the two countries – a legend who fought the British Raj and happily embraced death at the prime of his youth. This play is in tribute to the 60 years of independence of India”.
