The Drum presents:

Creative Mix: Art & Music

by Art Vinyl

As part of the Creative Hood Season*, a new exhibition – Creative Mix: Art & Music by ART VINYL can be seen at The Drum from Mon 2 Jun – Fri 4 Jul. This exhibition is not just about the music, these potent images provide us with a snapshot of contemporary graphics and photography, creating a strong identifiable aesthetic – a true reflection of urban popular culture.

Art Vinyl is a collective whose passion for music and design is dedicated to promoting the concept of record cover art as a resonant, affordable and constantly evolving popular art form. Through Creative Mix: Art & Music we will be celebrating the energy and creativity genres as diverse as Drum & Bass, Jungle, Hip Hop, Dancehall, Bashment, Ragga, Garage and Grime.

The brainchild of Andrew Heeps; his idea to frame vinyl records 3 years ago has become a lucrative business, each frame is designed so that the vinyl art work can be placed easily through the front of the frame, without having to remove from the wall.

‘It’s always a real pleasure to curate a new Art Vinyl exhibition which throws you into exploring graphic design and art for record covers that are new and exciting to me. This collection shows just how diverse the world of art and design is, when produced to add that visual element to these very different genres of urban music. We hope that this inspires visitors to the exhibition to go home and mix some art and music in their own homes’

*Creative Hood Season

Gun, gang and knife culture and so-called ‘Black-on-Black violence’ has meant that many inner city areas have often been designated as ‘no-go’ areas by the media. Through its season of work entitled Creative Hood, The Drum aims to redress this imbalance and showcase some of the creative talent surging through these urban spaces.
