The Drum is the UK’s premier arts centre dedicated to the development, presentation and celebration of African, Asian and Caribbean arts and cultural activities for the benefit of all is seeking motivated and skilled individuals to join its permanent and casual staff team to support an ambitious and exciting programme of activities:

Arts Programme Manager

£20,000 – £24,000 per annum

You will manage The Drum’s artistic programme including touring productions, commissions, arts participation projects and festivals ensuring that it delivers the departmental targets as well as contribute to departmental fundraising and income generation targets.

You will need a degree or an appropriate qualification in a relevant subject, e.g. Arts management, performing Arts, Visual Arts or Project Management, a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in the Arts or a related field, proven planning, Project Management, administration and organisational skills.

Arts Development & Outreach Manager P/T 22¹/₂ £20,000 – £24,000 per annum

As Arts Development & Outreach Manager you will manage a range of existing arts development partnerships and produce a new distinctive high quality Arts Development programme that is accessible, wide reaching, engages artists and secures active participation and attendance from target communities.

You will also be required to raise additional project funding to support the programme. You will need a professional qualification in project management or equivalent, have substantial experience of developing and delivering arts development / community arts initiatives, experience of developing participants / audiences through outreach strategy planning and have experience of working within the arts/cultural sector.

You will need to be educated to A level standard (including English) or equivalent, have good creative writing, proofreading and print production skills, 2 years’ experience of working in a similar role in a commercial or arts marketing environment, have basic design skills, good computer literacy especially MS Office packages, databases and computerised ticketing systems.

Bar & Hospitality Steward P/T 22¹/₂

£6.19 per hour

To support the Head of Drum Commercial to deliver a high standard of customer care and deliver a professional Bar and Hospitality service at The Drum and in venues deemed appropriate. The role requires an individual with experience of working in a bar and catering / hospitality environment and have experience of handling cash and excellent customer service skills.

Casual Customer Service Co-ordinator

£7.50 per hour

This role requires a highly professional individual to provide high quality customer focused service, to act as a focal point of information for customers and users of the centre and to ensure the effective operation and management of The Drum’s customer service activities.

You will need experience of working in a customer care / duty management environment, excellent communication and self-presentation skills, experience of dealing with a wide variety of people in a busy and pressurized environment and be available to work evenings and weekends.

Artifax & Executive Officer

£16,000 — £19,000 per annum

You will take responsibility for the development and implementation of The Drum’s Artifax Event Management system which is used to ensure the effective operation of The Drum’s programme of activities, carry out a range of administrative duties as well as providing professional and efficient administrative support to the Chief Executive and Head of Executive and Operations. The successful candidate will need to have substantial experience of developing and implementing computerised systems, providing administrative / secretarial support, minute taking as well as excellent planning and communication skills.

Marketing & Press Officer

£16,000 – £19,000 per annum

This role requires you to provide effective marketing support for the Marketing and Promotions Manager, the Arts and Marketing and Drum Commercial teams as well as contribute to devising and implementing effective marketing, PR and advertising plans and strategies aimed at increasing attendance and participation.

Birmingham School of Acting still has places left

There are still places left on the BA (Hons) Applied Performance (Community and Education) Programme at Birmingham School of Acting / Birmingham City University.

This course would suit students enthusiastic about interdisciplinary performance and would like the opportunity to use performance as a tool to raise awareness, inform and educate. Students make work with and for young people and community groups across the City. Projects have included work around homelessness and displacement, family and children’s theatre, disability, 2011 riots and Hate Crime. A recent project ‘She’ at The Drum for Year 10 students looked at girls’ relationships with gangs.

We have some exciting industry partners, The REP, mac birmingham, The Drum and Playhouse Theatre Company and our current focus is creating pathways to employment for our graduates. We are looking for applicants who would like to make a difference to the lives of young people and communities in Birmingham through performance. Youth Theatre Director required

YOUNG DRUM THEATRE CO.

After a series of successful productions Young Gifted Brum (YGB) is diversifying and establishing itself as a fully-fledged company, working with emerging and established theatre makers to create new work and working on the best scripts from African, Asian and Caribbean cultures.

Our first auditions took place earlier this year and the second intake of performers will take place in September. The Director we have been working with will be on sabbatical this summer so we are seeking to recruit a new Director on a 6 month contract, May – November 2013.

You will largely work Saturday afternoons, delivering two hour workshops with additional monthly team meetings and a small amount of paid time for development. Rate of pay is £25 per hour

Ideally we seek to engage a Theatre in Education practitioner, who may be at the start of their career, or who wishes to build on their existing experience by engaging with young people from culturally diverse backgrounds and/or socioeconomically deprived communities.

On Sat 27 Apr jazz legend Courtney Pine debuted his new album, House of Legends in Birmingham at The Drum. The amazing curtain raiser was performed by Subtle Tones a group of young people that have been taking part in the Jazz Fusion Project as part of our C&YP programme, Young Gifted Brum (YGB). Pine then performed to a full house of captivated Jazz fans.

Fundraiser and Bid Writer Required

The Drum is the UK’s premier arts centre dedicated to the development, presentation and celebration of African, Asian and Caribbean arts and cultural activities is seeking responses from freelancers, consortia and agencies for two exciting opportunities:

Experienced Fundraiser

To deliver The Drum’s Capital Fundraising Strategy action plan to achieve a target of £400k. This will involve working in partnership with the Chief Executive, Head of Executive and Operation and Board of Trustees to raise the match funding target and ensure a sustainable legacy of fundraising remain in the organisation going beyond the life of this commission (estimated at six months at circa £30k) and to design and deliver bespoke training to support the involvement of both officers in key fundraising processes and activities.

Experienced Bid Writer

The key requirements of this role is to take responsibility for drafting the various stages of The Drum’s Capital application to the Arts Council England Strategic Fund, the first phase of which is to take place September 2013 (September deadline is yet to be declared by ACE). The commission to develop and deliver the application is circa £6k. You will need to demonstrate, amongst other criteria, that you have practical experience of the Arts Council Strategic Fund (Capital) criteria and processes to produce a detailed outline approach to this brief and have significant bid writing experience and leading or working on capital schemes.
