Behind the icons, are the men.
Behind the myths, are the human struggles that change the course of history.

It’s Valentine’s Day in Harlem, 1965. Malcolm X has returned from the UK to an America seething with violence and hatred. His house has been fire-bombed and in one weeks’ time, he will be assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom. But tonight, separated from his family and with a death warrant on his head, he will risk the scorn of his followers to meet with the iconic leader whose philosophy he has so fiercely opposed: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Set just days after Malcolm X’s electrifying visit to Birmingham, this highly imagined encounter captures the individual humanity, political maturity and enduring integrity of two men who would ultimately give their lives for freedom. More than a play, this dramatic event takes audiences to the heart of the civil rights movement and to the centre of the debate that still rages today:

In the face of violence,
In the face of extremism,
In the face of all those who say you can’t…
How will you gain your freedom?

This spectacular production includes an art installation and Q&A opportunities to discuss the legacy of these important figures in Birmingham today.
