A HIGHLIGHT FROM OUR FORTHCOMING AUTUMN PROGRAMME - FULL DETAILS TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON!

The Drum in patnership with Birmingham Jazz presents, Africa's leading jazz orchestra, The African Jazz All Stars, under the direction of guitarist Lucky Ranku, leads a group of renowned African jazz soloists who successfully fuse township rhythms with a range of African jazz styles inlcuding afrobeat, soukous and mbalax.

Dudu Pukwana was an inspirational South African saxophonist who came to the UK with Chris Mc Gregor's Blue Notes and was a major figure in the great British South African Jazz movement. Sadly Dudu is no longer with us, but the African Allstars keep his brilliant music alive on this tour. The band is 10-piece and as well as Lucky Ranku on guitar it features Claude Deppa on trumpet, and Bukky Leo and Tony Kofi on saxophones and Lekan Babalola on percussion.

This explosive outfit effortlessly integrate the roots of many African cultures with jazz vernacular to create a sound that sizzles like an African sun.
