Pantsula and Hip-Hop!
Dancing is thinking with your body. And that is exactly what South African dance company Via Volcano do, together with their British choreographer, the multi-talented hip hop icon Benji Reid. They fuse breaking with hip hop and tap to bring a smooth, balanced and cutting-edge dance show to the stage. In the old South Africa nothing could beat the colourful style, clothing and vitality of Pantsula dancers. Pantsula was, and still is, the dance of the streets, of the super female girl and the macho guy, the dance through which street gangs challenged each other, West Side Story fashion. The Pantsula style of dress, with baggy trousers and Converse sneakers, has become their trademark in South Africa and abroad.
