Mother India, 21st Century Remix is a dynamic live audio/visual project that re-scores and re-visualizes Mother India, the groundbreaking tour-de-force of Indian cinematic history.

Nominated for the best Foreign Film Oscar in 1957, the film came to symbolise the post-colonial Indian psyche interpreted through the ambitions, struggles, compassion and sheer will to survive of the central 'Mother' character Radha. Profoundly influential, Mother India was lauded for its stunning cinematography, indelible soundtrack and powerfully dramatic storyline.

In tonight’s performance, British Asian DJ Tigerstyle, one of the world's leading Turntablists and electronic composers (former World DMC and ITF champion), reinterprets the score for a contemporary audience through a unique live electronic performance using turntables and electronics, accompanied by the prodigious talents of cellist Matt Constantine, drummer David Shaw and visual editor Josh Ford.

Experimental, yet true to the source, the film has been specially re-cut and remixed exclusively for this performance.

The film lasts 45 minutes and is followed by a post-show conversation between audience and artists led by Indy Hunjan (Kala Phool).

“With thoughtful editing of the film’s monumental setpieces by Josh Ford, and the impressive restraint of the new music. Tigerstyle creates an elegant, haunting score that enhances the emotion onscreen without overstating it”The Guardian
