Spoken Word
The Drum in association with Griotology presents Message to the Messengers: Mi Revalueshanary Frenz
A tribute to the man considered as the godfather of Rap, a title he renounced in favour of being a self-proclaimed “bluesologist” - who made his journey to ancestral land on May 27th 2011.
Gil Scott-Heron was one of the most influential spoken word artists of his generation; his fusion of jazz, blues, soul and spoken words always reflected the social and political issues of the time.
Join us as we journey through the life and works of Gil Scott-Heron, presenting some of the influential poems that made him an iconic figure - not just a spoken word artist but an acclaimed jazz and blues musician.
