Arts Alliance Productions with The Drum and the Midlands Palestinian Community Association presents Identity of the Soul
Identity of the Soul is a unique 5-screen cinematic event, featuring the Palestinian national poet Mahmoud Darwish’s A Soldier Dreams of White Lilies and Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s epic poem Terje Vigen, read by renowned actress and voice specialist Vanessa Redgrave.
The poems, which deal with the issues of war, retaliation and the consequences of choice, are set against an evocative backdrop of stunning images filmed around the world and an original fusion soundtrack of Scandinavian and Arabian music with contemporary electronic rhythms. The visuals allow the audience to step into a landscape and be absorbed by the sounds and images, while being invited to address questions about the nature of choices in life.
* The 5pm screening will be in Arabic with the late Mahmoud Darwish reciting his own work, filmed in Ramallah before his death in 2009.
As part of A Night Less Ordinary - Arts Council England's Free Theatre Ticket Initiative, The Drum has a limited number of tickets to give away for this event to anyone aged 26 or under.
