The Drum in partnership with UK Arts International presents Deconstructing Beautiful Me : A Practitioner Masterclass with Gregory Maqoma
Gregory Maqoma has risen to become one of South Africa’s foremost contemporary dancers and choreographers. In these workshops Maqoma will dissect one of his most recent pieces Beautiful Me. This will be a fantastic opportunity to see how Maqoma creates his work. Beautiful Me is a solo piece in which Maqoma challenges the notion of dance by working with three very successful choreographers; Akram Khan, Faustin Linyekula, and Vincent Sekwati Mantsoe. The connection between their separate traditions and styles illuminates something very profound and human common to them all.
Please note, places are limited and available to experienced dancers only, if you wish to attend please contact Tony Spencer - 0121 333 2418 or t.spencer@the-drum.org.uk
The Masterclass will last approximately 2 hours, and while the class itself is free you will be required to purchase a ticket for the evening’s performance of Mzobane.
