Midland Heart, Pan Birmingham NHS, Birmingham city council, Health Exchange and COPE Launch Early diversion of BME from entering the criminal, justice and mental health systems, and improving access into and out of mental health care tool kits.

We also dream is a sequel of GLAD MADE MAD, a videolised information tool kit of how to divert black and ethnic minority communities from entering the criminal justice and mental health systems.

In this dramatised true story By Patrick Kwesiga with music partly by Jackie Latty, an arrest turns society upside down, brings commotion in the justice system, leads into mental hospitalisation and tears a family apart: We ask whether those who go to prison come out the same?

We interview the community, professionals in the criminal, justice and mental health systems, equality campaigners and professional in health and social care on what can be done to save communities from “wearing the T-shirt and just peeping without entering” or any way does the person of colour also dream? If so can the dream become reality?

Improving access into and out of mental health care utilises Coming up for Air play written by Don Kinch and performed by Nucentury Arts. In the play Denzil shoots five community members which leads him to prison and a psychiatric unit for assessment. The prognosis and diagnosis of Denzil’s mental ability are as contradictory as the professionals and personalities in his life. So, is Denzil mad, bad, sad or justified? What lessons can this tragedy teach us and how can such occurrences be avoided?
