The Drum in partnership with Birmingham Association of Youth Clubs presents Birmingham Youth Film Festival 2010: Young Black Funky Shorts
A showcase of films produced by local young people. The evening will also include an audience discussion exploring the themes highlighted in each of the films and the changing face and focus of film-making by young people and for young people. This event is open to young people and the general public.
On Road (National Anti Youth Violence, 2009)
Nominated in the Best Short Film Category of the British Black Film awards 2009 ‘On Road’ depicts a young man faced with a life-changing choice. The film dynamically explores the realities and challenges facing increasing numbers of young people who have been claimed, shaped and sustained by their ‘road’ lives.
Girls and ‘Gangs’ (BAYC, 2004)
First produced in 2005, this documentary was one of the first in the UK that explored the experiences of girls participating in gang culture.
Breach Vs Project (JH Foundation, 2010)
During the summer of 2010 young residents of Winson Green, Ladywood and Sandwell will be trained to create their own social documentary that will highlight issues that impact on themselves and their community.
