"as the mother of a brown boy…"

A mother remembers the life, and sudden death, of her mixed heritage son and his struggle for identity in a multi-racial society. Brought to you by Chickenshed, this critically-acclaimed production combines dance, physical theatre, music and multimedia and was nominated for two awards at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2007. Thursday night’s performance will be dedicated to Mikey Powell, and will feature an after show discussion in association with The Mikey Powell Campaign For Justice and INQUEST, the campaigning charity which supports the families of people who have died in custody.

“as the mother of a brown boy…” is a marvelous piece of theatre - taut, moving, beautifully-written and a compelling chronicle of our time. In my view, it deserves the widest possible audience. Its themes are relevant to all communities and all generations, and I commend it most highly. Daily Telegraph
