The Drum presents 16 Cowries - Erindinlogun
In celebration of International Women’s Day this exhibition showcases the work of award winning artist Nigerian Taiwo Abiodun Adediran. Her accolades include representing her State both nationally and internationally and staging worldwide exhibitions. This exhibition presents sixteen individual vibrantly painted batik textiles, intertwined with Yoruba proverbs. Erindinlogun is the name given to a cowrie-shell divination method practiced in the Yoruba religion to consult an Orisha (spirit or deity). The number sixteen holds important significance in Yoruba mythology as it was the purported number of original divinities that established life on earth.
