A34 Festival & Open Day, Sat 21 June, 12 noon – 6pm @ The Drum

June 13th, 2014 3:18 pm

The A34 Festival and Open Day is a brilliant mix of all the best bits of a festival, right on your doorstep! We’re closing Potters Lane to traffic for the day and building a stage to host entertainment for all the family, including Live Music, Dance, Spoken Word and much more.

We open the day with a welcome from our hosts Rem Conway and Smash, renowned local performers and stars of Bangin the Drum, who’ll kick things off in style! We’ll also be joined by three corss-generational Local Dignatries nominated from the local community, who’ll help get the party started.

You’ll be treated to a medly of marvelous music all day, with dancing beats coming from the Aston Mannor Academy Steel Band, the Saif-ul-Malook Orchestra, the Faraz Khan & Bollywood Academy Bhangra and Dhol drummers, and the African Roots Fusion Band to name just a few! There’ll also be spectacular Spoken Word from the Beatfreeks Creative Superheros, seriously smooth moves from Tru Streetdance, and raw roots reggae from Vybroc and Gabbidon. Make sure you dont miss a minute!

The party continues inside, as The Drum hosts a huge range of arts and crafts stalls and creative workshops, with decorations and bunting specially made for the day by the pupils of Chilwell Croft Academy.

Brush up on your computer skills with a Digital Inclusion workshop; learn the tricks of Spoken Word poetry with DC14; unleash your inner rhythm with the Tewahedo Drumming Group Palm Drumming workshop; or create your very own online drama or comedy show with the BBC Writers’ Room Future Talent Workshop.

For our young friends, there’ll be the chance to join YGB to flex your acting muscles with the Strawberry Words Drama Workshop, or learn some moves with the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Spaces are limited, so make sure you call The Drum Box Office to book your place!

There’s also a special Kids Zone with Games, Arts & Crafts, Sports, and even Pinatas! And for the grown ups, why not try your luck and face off in the A34 Dominoes Torunament!

There really is something for everyone, so come join the community and be a part of A34 Festival!

Come Join The Fun!
