The Drum: Raising the Roof

In 2014, The Drum will be celebrating its 20 Year Anniversary. For two decades we have built a connection with the artists and community, celebrating the passion and spirit. We have developed in Music, Theatre, Dance, Comedy, Literature and Visual Arts. We’ve celebrated legends, welcomed celebrities, and helped hundreds of young artists discover their creativity.

We can’t wait to see what the next 20 years have in store … and with your help, we can make them even greater than the last!

To ensure you have the best performing and digital arts experiences, we have made an ambitious funding project – Raising the Roof, a £4.8 million plan to redesign and upgrade our venue, facilities and equipment.

Our main projects include …

  • Raising the Roof to build a balcony and enlarge our Auditorium, increasing seating from 350 to 478 and standing from 750 to 1000
  • Renewing and refurbishing all spaces, mechanical and electrical equipment to improve accessibility and usage
  • Improving and upgrading our services and facilities for young people working in Digital Arts, Dance, and Drama

… In addition to improved audio visual equipment, hospitality spaces, installing a new lift, and spectacular new live music performance spaces.

Our vision is for The Drum to be a major national arts centre, as well as a local community centre.

As with everything we do at The Drum, we can’t deliver our vision without your help and support. Every audience, supporter and friend of The Drum is key to making this dream a reality – and as someone who shares this vision, we hope you’ll consider making a donation!

Not only does each donation help our fundraising target of £500,000, it actually helps our case when we apply for funding from the Arts Council, trusts and foundations! Each donation proves the demand for The Drum to still be open in 20 years, and we would be proud to have your valuable support.

OMG Live the UK’s first under-18’s music festival arrives this Easter Holidays at the NEC in Birmingham.

For 12- 18’s only – a mammoth 9 hours of live entertainment will include headline sets from Lawson, Union J and the hottest new acts including Elyar Fox, GraciousK, The Boxettes, The ParadesChrom3 and two of Birmingham’s own: Electric Swing Circus and famed street-dance troupe Antics.

New to the bill are Anglo-American band Hollywood Ending, fresh from touring Japan, and the US. Ollie Marland joins OMG Live ahead of playing Hyde Park with McBusted; the UK’s two most exciting new girl bands Goodbye Charlie and Vanquish will also be appearing along with teen boy band M.A.D.

In all over 30 bands will appear across three stages in the LG Arena live, at the NEC on April 24th.

The fun starts at 1pm right through till 10pm with the coolest DJs from a selection of the Midlands’ top clubs, the brightest and newest talent from schools and colleges across the region and the best live entertainers on offer.

Creative Enterprise, in partnership with The Drum, invite you to a free seminar event with cultural entrepreneur Ammo Talwar, MBE, CEO of arts-based enterprise Punch, producer of BASS Festival, Desi Moves and other international events and initiatives.

This event is ideal for anyone running a creative enterprise who would like to hear from an inspirational creative professional and learn about new support and development opportunities. The event is led by Creative Enterprise, a professional support initiative which offers a range of opportunities including workshops, mentoring, and advice and guidance from experts in the creative field.
